East Wind Healing Center - Massage Therapy Suited to Your Life
Massage Styles

Swedish massage is the most common type of massage used in Western culture. Therapists use lotions and oils to perform long, flowing strokes, kneading, friction and joint movement/gentle stretching. Therapists often combine other techniques into your Swedish session including myofascial release, trigger point therapy or acupressure. All are helpful in aiding your healing process. The therapist leaves while you undress to your comfort level and situate yourself between the sheets provided. During the treatment we only uncover areas being treated.

Thai massage offers thousands of years of evolution dedicated to your health and happiness. It is a deeply soothing massage based in yoga, which uses breath to unlock the body, mind and spirit. Each session gently blends relaxation, acupressure, stretching, fascia release and passive stretches. People have experienced deep, lasting effects like improvements in energy, range of motion, circulation and sleep, lowered anxiety, better posture and visibly reduced scar tissue- even in areas not directly treated, and much more. Ashiatsu Oriental Bar therapy is quite simply a deep tissue, barefoot, Swedish massage. The word Ashiatsu literally means “foot pressure” and although the technique gets its roots from the Far East, AOBT actually originated in the western world. Here is how the founder Ruthie Piper Hardee breaks it down: “This barefoot massage technique uses deep compression strokes that glide over the body. It combines flowing centrifugal [away from the heart] and centripetal [toward the heart] push; pull, pumping movements, which can create a structural change in chronic soft tissue damage. Bars are used above the head for balance and lubricant is essential for its purest application.”As with almost all massage techniques you never really understand them until you experience them. So what have you got to lose?
